Albany Memorial Hospital Emergency Department
The Albany Memorial Hospital Emergency Department project consisted of a 16,000 square foot addition and an 8 phased, 18,000 square foot renovation to the existing building. The Hospital had outgrown it’s former Emergency Department which had been last renovated in the 1970’s. The former space was designed to accommodate approximately 18,000 patient visits per year and was handling 30,000 patient visits when renovations began.
The addition and renovations not only increased the Department’s capacity to see patients, but was also constructed considering patient privacy.
The construction team had to overcome the challenges of working directly outside of, or adjacent to, a fully functional emergency department which required detailed, advanced coordination with Albany Memorial Hospital staff to ensure no interruption in medical services occurred.
Coordination was also critical to accommodate utility modifications and “tie-ins” which effected the entire hospital.
AOW’s leadership allowed for this project to progress as scheduled and under budget with effective communications and planning with the Owner serving as key components.
