Albany Medical Center South Clinical Campus Café Renovation
Simultaneously with the construction of a new MRI Suite and the 2nd floor Recovery Unit, AOW completed a 5,00 square foot renovation to an existing café. This renovation transformed the space into a full-service commercial kitchen, servery, and seating area. The project further advances the South Clinical Campus’ ability to become an around the clock patient care facility.
The project required the removal of the two foundation walls providing support to the 2nd floor Operating Suite. The operating rooms were supported by shoring towers so the 16-inch-thick concrete walls could be removed to open up the space. The floors were then supported by the addition of structural steel.
The design included full mechanical system replacement, demand-controlled ventilation and grease hoods, as well as plumbing and electrical upgrades. The installation of commercial kitchen equipment was carefully coordinated by AOW with the supplier. High end finishes to include flooring, decorative ceiling panels in the sitting area, and wall coverings modernized this space completely.
