Albany Medical Center D1 Café Servery Renovation Phase III
Expanding medical services within a hospital often means the expansion of support services for patients, staff, and visitors is required. The D1 Cafeteria Servery Renovation Project’s purpose was to provide new preparation, server, and support areas for the existing main cafeteria. This project presented two major challenges; the server needed to remain completely functional throughout the project, requiring temporary provisions to be installed and the schedule was fast-tracked in order to allow the Servery to be open in late summer.
The project consisted of demolition of the existing space and the installation of stone countertops, ceramic tile, ceilings, and modern architectural finishes. Alterations were made to the existing mechanical system and the sprinkler system was extended. Careful and routine coordination between AOW and the food service equipment provider was required as the renovation called for over 150 pieces of new equipment to be installed, including a new walk-in cooler and freezer and exhaust hoods.
The renovation resulted in a modern and open space with café offerings to include specific areas offering sushi, fresh sauté, salads, soups, and entries. New check out areas were also introduced into the space.
