Whiteface Mountain Legacy Lodge
A devastating fire in November of 2019 destroyed the previous mid station lodge and left the Olympic Regional Development Authority lobbying quickly for State Funding to rebuild.
In January of 2020, Governor Cuomo green lighted the funding with the condition the lodge be open for the 2021 ski season. The design and bid process was fast-tracked and AOW was the successful low bidder on all three general contracting packages totaling in excess of $7 million.
The work included construction of the foundation which AOW completed with its own forces. AOW was also responsible for the interior fit up including millwork and doors, and the construction of an expansive exterior deck and patio.
Construction posed many significant challenges. The site is located at 2,100 feet above sea-level with no formal roadways to navigate. A temporary road was constructed to transport personnel and materials from the base of the mountain to the site. The building was also constructed into the bedrock on the mountain ledge which posed many challenges and safety hazards which were mitigated successfully.
The Whiteface Mountain Mid Station Lodge, now known as the Legacy lodge was completed $200,000 under budget and a month ahead of schedule.
