H Carl McCall Building 5th Floor

AOW was the low bidder for the State University Construction Fund 5th Floor Renovations at the historic H Carl McCall Building in downtown Albany. The renovations totaled 14,000 square feet and included interior demolition and the reconstruction of office spaces. Minor abatement work was performed, and new fire suppression, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical upgrades were installed. The space received new partitions and the addition of acoustical ceilings to help absorb and reduce sound within the workspace.

Some additional features within the project included a new breakroom with solid surface counters, modernized bathrooms, high end millwork, cloud ceilings, and large pendent light fixtures providing the space with a high-end aesthetic throughout.

There were multiple challenges that AOW faced with this project including minimal storage and staging areas given site constraints. There was no elevator access granted to AOW given potential disruption to workers and visitors within the building so materials were craned in or boomed up to an exterior platform and brought in through windows. Finally, as with any historical renovation work, minor existing structural issues required real time resolution in the field.

Under the management of AOW, this project was turned over to the owner before the anticipated completion date and under budget.
