SUNY: Wheeler Lab Renovation

AOW played an essential role in this 27,000 square foot exposed steel and concrete plank addition to the Chemistry/Biology Building at SUNY Cobleskill. The goal of this addition was to create new laboratory and classroom spaces as well as add an observatory on the roof. The addition houses laboratories for general chemistry, anatomy, biotechnology, microbiology, environmental technology, and analytical and organic chemistry. The laboratories provide state-of-the-art instructional equipment, lab furnishings, data connections, ventilation systems, and accessible lab stations.

Each lab was designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate changing academic programs and to allow external observation of laboratory work, thereby generating interest in the various fields of study. In order to keep this space accessible to faculty and students, renovations were done in phases. This project was carefully thought out by AOW, and in turn was completed on schedule. Additionally, this structure was designed with the goal of meeting the criteria for LEED certification.
