Glens Falls Hospital Harry M. Mac DePan Surgical Care Unit
Glens Falls Hospital is a 327-bed acute care community provider serving a 2,600 square mile, predominantly rural region encompassing Warren, Washington, Hamilton, Essex and northern Saratoga counties of Upstate New York. The completion of the Harry M “Mac” DePan Surgical Care Unit ultimately advanced the quality of surgical care available to the region. The unit, located in a wing on the 4th floor of the Hospital, had not been renovated since its construction in the 1970’s. AOW was selected to perform this work which included the conversion of 18,500 square feet of semi-private surgical care room space into 27 private rooms.
Details of the renovations included a state-of-the-art nurse’s station affording staff a full view of all units and elevator traffic, additional doctor, nurse, and technician work areas, staff support spaces to include a new staff lounge, and a staff conference room. Additionally, a Day Room was created within the space to provide a welcoming environment for friends and families of patients to gather along with a refreshment station and a resting room.
The 27 private patient rooms were designed to provide greater privacy and a more restful stay to patients and for patients with a history of heart conditions, the modernized rooms include in-room cardiac telemetry equipment making transfers to the Cardiac Care Unit unnecessary. Patient rooms were appointed with family friendly features while providing the necessary clinical functionality to provide exceptional care.
