Sunnyview Hospital East Wing

Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital is the only nationally recognized specialty rehabilitation center in upstate New York, servicing 15,000 patients annually with a focus on Neuro, Ortho, and Physical Rehabilitation.

This project included a 6,000 square foot two-story addition with the bottom serving as an undercover parking area and the second floor serving as an expansion to their rehabilitation space. The work also included a 12,000 square foot renovation that comprised renovation to patient rooms, centralized nurse stations, and new mechanical and medical gas systems. AOW served as Construction Manager and also self-performed interior demolition, concrete foundations, finished carpentry, installation of doors, frames, and hardware, and the installation of wall protection, toilet accessories, lockers, and miscellaneous accessories.

The construction was performed without interrupting patient care, which required careful coordination during both renovations to the existing facilities and tying in the addition. The addition was constructed in an extremely tight area adjacent to pedestrian walkways and parking areas. The renovated space occurred over an occupied patient care are,a which shared mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Finally, shutdowns required coordination with multiple parties to ensure patient care was not impacted. Construction staging areas were also extremely limited.
