Farren Care Demolition
AOW was selected as Construction Manager to perform the complex demolition of the 122-bed Farren Care Center in Turner Falls, Massachusetts.
Before serving as a long-term care assisted living facility for residents with a dual diagnosis of a medical condition and a behavioral health disorder, Farren Care Center was Farren Memorial Hospital, serving its community for 90 years under the administration of The Sisters of the Providence and the eventual ownership by St. Peter’s Health Partners. During its three decades serving its assisted living residents, Farren Care Center became known as one of the highest quality care centers in the State, specializing in individualized care for its patients and their families.
Given the prohibitive costs of modernizing Farren Care Center, a decision to demolish the facility and turn the property over to the Town as green space was conceived. Over 14 months, AOW managed the abatement of asbestos and lead-based paint and demolition of the 125,000 square foot complex over multiple phases. Given the proximity of the building to a waterway, consistent coordination, testing, and monitoring were required by regulatory authorities. AOW completed the project within budgetary and scheduling parameters.
