Albany Medical Center C Building Operating Room & PACU Renovations

AOW was selected as the general contractor to complete a 46,000 square foot demolition and renovation of the C Building Basement Operating Suite and Adult & Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This project was of special significance to AOW as the original operating suite was built by AOW’s former Owner, Dick Oliver, 4 decades prior to this renovation.

Even though this job played to two of AOW’s strengths; demolition and performing work adjacent to critical or sensitive care units; the work presented AOW with several challenges. Operating Rooms adjacent to the active work spaces needed to remain fully functional. All shut downs and removals had to be properly coordinated in order to avoid disruption in services. Strict time frames were placed on AOW with the majority of material movement occurring on the night shift and weekends. Extensive planning and coordination between AOW, AMC Engineering, Epidemiology, and Environmental Health and Safety was required in order to ensure proper temporary protections and ventilation.

AOW was flexible in its approach to meet this time constraint often working around the clock; the participation of our subcontractors in order to meet the Owner’s timeframe was crucial to the successful completion of this work. The Owner, AOW, and our subcontractors worked hand-in-hand to complete this project in the required timeframe.

The new basement Operating Suite now houses State of the Art Orthopedic Operating Rooms, Operating Rooms, Procedure Rooms, PACU beds, a dedicated laboratory and support areas.
