Albany Stratton VA Medical Center Consolidation of 3B Labs
The Stratton VA Medical Center opened in 1951 and serves veterans in 22 counties in Upstate New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont. The Stratton VA Medical Center has a strong affiliation with Albany Medical College, with students and residents rotating within the facility on a routine basis. One of the many services the Stratton VA Medical Center provides is in-house extensive diagnostic laboratory services.
In collaboration with Iron Sword Enterprises, a certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, AOW completed an 8,000 square foot interior renovation for a new blood laboratory and office space on the third floor of the Albany VA Hospital. The project was completed in 3 phases in order to allow the existing lab, which is staffed 24 hours a day, to stay fully operational throughout the project.
The work required extensive demolition and abatement and the installation of new mechanical, electrical, data, and sprinkler systems. New flooring, ceilings, window treatments, and updated lighting were also installed throughout the space. A DIRTT wall was installed along with modern laboratory equipment and customized case work.
Due to unforeseen conditions, to include the need for abatement, Owner delays, and changes by the VA to materials for the space, the project was completed over a 44-month period.
