Albany Stratton VA Medical Center Hot & Chilled Water Line
The Veteran’s Administration was established in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting veterans of war. The VA Health Care System currently includes 152 hospitals to include the Stratton VA Medical Center, established in 1951. The Stratton VA services veterans in 22 counties in upstate NY, western Massachusetts, and Vermont. Health services include primary care programs and 11 outpatient clinics, specialty services to include cardiac catheterization, radiation oncology, geriatric assessment and adult day care, post-traumatic stress disorder services, and hospice care. They also provide a variety of women’s health care services and extensive lab and radiology services.
The Stratton VA Hot & Chilled Water Line Project included the construction of a 500-foot underground waterproof tunnel in order to accommodate the installation of new hot and chilled water lines running from the chiller plant to the Hospital. The tunnel was encased in underground waterproof concrete allowing personnel to perform maintenance along the entire route. This work included, excavation, alterations to roads and walkways, grading, drainage, mechanical piping, new electrical, and asbestos abatement. The project was completed in multiple phases to minimize the disturbance of access and parking to the existing facility.
AOW partnered with Iron Sword Enterprises, LLC, a certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business who provided the on-site General Superintendent for the work and Project Management which included processing shop drawings, handling all RFI’s and Submittals, contracts with subcontractors, daily coordination and project scheduling, and budgetary management.
