Columbia Greene Humane Society is an animal shelter which provides care, kindness, and comfort to animals that were unfortunate enough to lose their homes.  The shelter was founded in 1955 and since its inception has strived in protecting, nurturing and provide a safe haven for pets. Over the years the existing shelter became outdated and needing repair.

AOW was honored to be selected to construct the new, modernized facility so CGHS could continue to provide need community services.  The new facility is comprised of three large boarding kennel areas, veterinary clinics, grooming rooms, exam rooms, common spaces, free roam cat rooms and several large fenced in dog runs.

AOW worked hand in hand with both the architect and the owner to ensure that the owner was provided the best product and within the budget.  By value engineering several items, AOW was able to save the owner money and at the same time provide the same standard of quality.

The building itself was designed to be highly energy efficient by implementing several different types of insulation into the building envelope.  Spray foam and batt insulation was used on all exterior walls and blown in and rigid insulation was used in the attic space.  This approach will ensure that throughout the lifetime of this building, substantial cost savings on heating bills will be realized.

To ensure efficient maintenance of the three kennel rooms, pressure washer stations were set-up in each room.  Colored concrete was used as the finish floor in each room and the walls were finished with fiberglass reinforced panels, so that the rooms themselves can be sprayed down without the fear of damaging any finished surfaces.
