Begley Library Renovation

AOW Construction was chosen as the low bidder for the Schenectady County Community College Begley Library Renovation.

This was a 40,000 sq ft renovation of the existing library which included selective demolition, new flooring finishes, wall finishes, ceiling finishes, architectural woodwork, new doors and hardware, new state of the art skylights, fireproofing, a new architectural hard ceiling, suspended acoustical panels, and even a new café for the students to enjoy. The design included an open floor plan with an atrium between the first and second floors. The Begley Library required modernization because the last updates to the space were in the late 1980s.

One construction challenge AOW faced was that the project began pre-COVID but was delayed halfway through due to pandemic shutdowns. In addition to this delay, this project was subject to student quiet hours, which halted noisy work at a certain time. Adjacent classrooms and lecture halls were also occupied throughout construction.

This project was turned over to the owner before students returned to the classroom after the COVID-19 pandemic.
